Hijab for the Muslim Male: Lest We Forget

People like to compare the dress codes of men and women in Islam to jump to the conclusion that my beautiful religion supresses me. As if anything could... Most people forget the fact that Muslim men have their own form of hijab. Muslim brothers have to dress modestly, and behave modestly too... In fact, there are more verses in the Qu`ran emphasizing male modesty than women`s! Uh huh, that`s right haters. The boys have things to cover too! Their clothes should not be tight fitting on their bottoms, their package, ect, and their skin should be covered up to the top of the belly-button, so boys, no flashing us your sexy abbs to us, okay! LOL. Short shorts for you is a no-no, and if I am going to wear an abaya on the beach so men don`t check out my bod, you are going to wear a body-suit that covers your abbs so women aren`t checking you too, k.... Help me maintain my dignity the way I help you maintain your lowering of the gaze: D There are so many good brothers out there, who, even though they are less recognizable since they don`t walk around in thobe 24 7 the way we sisters do hijab, they know, that they TOO are supposed to refrain from sex till their wedding nights, and not go around harrassing poor chicas and being all creepy---or the other end of the spectrum---being all check-out-me-playboy. I am going to nag on this before I nag on a sister because I see it more from the men than the women. I know it gets confusing for those new to Islam why a man doesn`t have to cover his hair but a woman does, or that a man can wear perfume in public and woman is forbidden too, but there are things that we sisters are allowed that men are not. For instance, men are forbidden from wearing gold and silk and we women are allowed to. It is one of Allah`s mysteries, His divine understanding of our different natures. It doesn`t make us any less equal to eachother in rights, but we acknowledged our sexes having different responsibilities, strengths AND weaknesses, to compliment eachother as a perfect pair. When it comes to fashion, especially in the Gulf, men are much more limited in styling choices for their public wear than women are (who have a variety of cuts and trimmings and fabrics to choose from) whereas the boys are limited in general to switching up their cuff links, pen, and styling their heads. Give the boys a break. The ones practicing proper hijab aren`t suppressing us. And the boys that aren`t working on THEIR hijab---give them a good shake.White thobe with side snaps and breast pocket from http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://lawungdirect.com/images/Urban%2520Navigator.JPG&imgrefurl=http://www.lawungdirect.com/&h=600&w=400&sz=43&hl=en&start=143&tbnid=ZKzNkJeH4_XcTM:&tbnh=135&tbnw=90&prev=/images%3Fq%3DIslamic%2BFashion%26start%3D126%26gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3D18%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN for $32.00 GBPWhite thobe with cargo pockets from http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://lawungdirect.com/images/Urban%2520Navigator.JPG&imgrefurl=http://www.lawungdirect.com/&h=600&w=400&sz=43&hl=en&start=143&tbnid=ZKzNkJeH4_XcTM:&tbnh=135&tbnw=90&prev=/images%3Fq%3DIslamic%2BFashion%26start%3D126%26gbv%3D2%26ndsp%3D18%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN for $32.00 GBP.

If you want to read up on the dress of the Prophet S.A.W. as en example of what men should wear if they want to dress as per sunnah, I found this great link http://www.inter-islam.org/hadeeth/st8.htm
